42 hectares of undiked Wadden Sea salt marsh and beach meadow on the island of Rømø.
On the southern tip of the island of Rømø you find many hectares of unbridled Wadden Sea salt marsh and beach meadow. This kind of natural beach meadow is a rarity in the Wadden Sea. Wading birds galore. Especially in spring and late summer/autumn. If you take a look at the tide tables and wait for high tide the birds are closer to the shore (see the link below for tide table).
There is a dam built across the Wadden Sea that connects the island to the mainland. There is a parking lot at the end of Rimmevej, just before Stormengevej. Click on the P in the map to get directions.
Beware of high tide before venturing outside the dike. The round trip is about 3 km, but if you are up for more you can follow the dike towards Havneby. Lots of birds on the mudflats there too.
