Description

A peaceful, flat walk along the Canal du Nivernais and the River Aron, with a mix of sloping woodland, small marshy areas, and abundant grassland with wooded edges. During the breeding season, the area holds an incredible number of Slavuj, Vuga and Grlica. Other birds you can observe include Batokljun, Zimovka, Crnoglava sjenica, Crnogrla Strnadica and more. The area is less interesting outside the breeding season, although plenty of Ždral fly over in winter.

Access

There's a parking lot at the Pont (Alluy) bridge over the canal. You can also park in Romanay (Biches), the turning point of the walk, and thus start and finish. Press P on the map for directions to a parking spot.

The walk is completely flat because there's a towpath on both sides of the Canal du Nivernais. One towpath runs between the canal and the Aron River. You can cycle or walk. In some places, there are bridges or locks where you can cross to the other bank, or you can shorten your walk. If you walk the entire route there and back, it's roughly 12 to 14 kilometers, but as mentioned, you can shorten it if you prefer.
