Description

The strategic location of Château Peyrelade is perfect to watch birds of prey at eye level. The rock walls on the other side of the Tarn provide space for nesting Griffon Vulture. You also have a chance to observe Eurasian Black Vulture, Alpine Swift, Red Kite and Eurasian Goshawk. The castle is open to the public from 10 a.m., but the viewpoints are also accessible outside opening hours to avoid the crowds.

There is a car park next to the castle, but a walk to the top from Camping Le Peyrelade is also a nice option. The walking trail takes you past fruit trees and vineyards and along paths through mixed forest where there is a chance of Pied Flycatcher, Crested Tit, Eurasian Nuthatch, Short-toed Treecreeper, White Wagtail, Song Thrush, Common Chiffchaff, Marsh Tit, Eurasian Green Woodpecker, Great Tit and Firecrest. Along the banks of the Tarn you will find White-throated Dipper, Grey Wagtail and the chance of low-flying Griffon Vulture.
