Description

Roquecézière is situated where the Haut-Languedoc and Grands-Causses regional nature Parks meet. The Crêtes de Roquecézière (Roquecézière ridges) are an open area of fields that are favourable for watching autumn migration, particularly that of birds of prey. The best period : early August to mid-October with raptor passage at its best from late August to mid-September. Very often migrants pass in the morning, movement dying in the early afternoon. About 3000 birds of prey are counted each year in three weeks of monitoring, at the end of August-beginning of September. The site also allows for a spectacular panoramic view over the southern Aveyron and the Monts de Lacaune. Birds you can see on migration or in the area are European Honey-buzzard, Black Kite, Red Kite, Osprey, Western Marsh Harrier, Montagu's Harrier, Short-toed Snake Eagle, Booted Eagle, Black Stork, White Stork, European Bee-eater Alpine Accentor, Griffon Vulture, Eurasian Black Vulture, Golden Eagle, Hen Harrier, Melodious Warbler and Red-backed Shrike.
