Description

The Site consists of the Salses-Leucate coastal lagoon and its peripheral wetlands; it represents a typical Mediterranean coastal area. A wide range of habitats with different levels of salinity, depth and vegetation cover provide favourable conditions for a range of animal and plant species. 280 bird species have been identified, most notably birds such as the locally-rare Common Snipe and Eurasian Curlew. The Salses-Leucate lagoon is, with its 5400 ha, the second largest lagoon in the Occitanie/Pyrenees-Mediterranean region. With an average depth of about 2 m. Note that the shoreline is very heavily urbanized. In the area of Des Dosses it is possible to explore the area.
