Description

The Étangs Nérac are a group of historic fishponds. They were created in the seventeenth century and later restored as a protected natural site. Covering about 20 hectares, they are part of the Natura 2000 network. Restoration projects in the early 2000s reconnected the ponds to natural water systems. The ponds are rich in biodiversity, with more than 140 bird species recorded. Birds that have been observed include Penduline Tit, Osprey, Water Rail, Golden Oriole, and migrating Common Crane.
