Description

The Forêt de Fontainebleau is a huge wooded area of 25,000 hectares. On the east side, the forest of Fontainebleau borders the Seine. The landscape is varied with pine forest, oak forest, wetlands, rocks and heathlands. Numerous hiking trails have been set out in this wooded area. Characteristic elements in the Forest of Fontainebleau are the formations of sandstone rocks that you find scattered throughout the area. This beautiful and large forest holds of course many forest birds. The forest is home to over 200 species of birds including 102 nesting ones. Among the birds that can be seen are Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Black Woodpecker, Eurasian Nuthatch, Crested Tit, Wood Warbler, Western Bonelli's Warbler, Wood Lark, Firecrest, Goldcrest, Common Redstart, Tree Pipit, Hawfinch and Eurasian Bullfinch.

Access

Easy to reach by car. There is a parking lot at the visitor center. Click on the P in the map for directions. There are numerous walking routes through the forest. More than 1,500 kilometers of pathways, 400 of them marked. The route shown on the map is approximately 5,5 km.
