Description

The Marais de Guînes was used until the beginning of the twentieth century for grazing and peat extraction. Now it is a nature reserve with a mosaic of meadows and woods that attracts many birds. Among the birds you can encounter are Western Marsh Harrier, Common Cuckoo, Eurasian Hobby, Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Sedge Warbler, Reed Warbler, Cetti's Warbler, Blackcap, Garden Warbler, Yellowhammer and Reed Bunting.

Français: Le Marais de Guînes était utilisé jusqu’au début du XXème siècle pour le pâturage et l’extraction de la tourbe. C’est une mosaïque de prairies et de bois entrecoupés de canaux et jalonnés de petits étangs qui s’étire sur une superficie de plus de 1230 hectares.

Access

Most easy part to explore is the trail 'Sentier des Têtards' near Village St Joseph. Click on the P in the map to get directions to the parking. From the parking you can make a 1,7 km circular walk that passes a bird hide.
