Description

The Réserve Naturelle de Montenach consists of seven hills surrounding the village of Montenach and covers an area of about 107 hectares, 80 of which are forest. This reserve is known for its rich biodiversity, including unique flora such as orchids. In spring, 24 species of wild orchids bloom across the seven hills. In summer, the atmosphere is reminiscent of the south of France, and the diverse habitat is ideal for reptiles: lizards, slow worms, grass snakes, and vipers. Autumn, spring and winter are the best times to observe the birds that inhabit the reserve. Birds you can observe include Eurasian Jay, Sparrowhawk, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Black Woodpecker, Common Cuckoo, Common Buzzard, Black Kite, and Red Kite.

Français: La réserve naturelle de Montenach est très appréciée des naturalistes et des botanistes. Au printemps, 24 espèces d'orchidées sauvages échelonnent leur floraison sur les 7 collines. En été, on retrouve une belle ambiance de sud de la France, la variété du biotope est propice aux reptiles : lézards, orvet, couleuvre et vipère. A l'automne et en hiver, c'est à ces périodes que vous observerez les oiseaux présents sur la réserve : les geais, les pics, les éperviers, les milans, les buses blanches et variables.

Access

The Réserve Naturelle de Montenach is located north of the village of Montenach, near the borders with Luxembourg and Germany. From the village of Montenach, take Rue des Ponts to the Maison de la Nature parking lot. Press P on the map for directions to the parking lot. From there you can explore the area on foot. The trails wind through the hills, covering seven slopes. The 3.5 km route is marked.
