Description

Vardzia is a 12th‑century cave monastery complex. The site combines a great site with historical significance with birdwatching. kövi csuszka are numerous and a walk through the many rooms hacked into the stone face of the valley will result in hearing vöröshomlokú csicsörke and Kék kövirigó. During Spring and Summer months, Havasi sarlósfecske can be seen high above the valley. There are many nests of szirtifecske and Molnárfecske along the rock faces and Csukár can be heard in the surroundings. During the winter months, Hajnalmadár can be found on the cliff walls. Vízirigó are common along the Kura river.

There is some debate on the occurrence of Szirti csuszka in this area, so be the first to definitively prove its occurrence! A small lake (1) along the road to Vardzia is good for migrants during Spring migration with Rozsdás nádiposzáta, Fülemülesitke and many törpegém.
