Description

The Döllnitzsee is an artificial lake close to the village of Wermsdorf. In winter many ducks, geese, grebes and Goosander stay here. Also in spring and during spring migration many nice birds can be observed. in summer there are significantly fewer birds to be seen. You might want to skip the area then. But the best time for a visit is during the autumn migration. Especially the small lagoon in the northwest part of the lake is a magnet for birds. Depending on the water level a surprising number of waders can show up from mid-August to October. Among the waders that can be seen here in this period are Wood Sandpiper, Ruff, Spotted Redshank, Common Greenshank, Common Sandpiper, Green Sandpiper, Common Ringed Plover, Common Snipe, Curlew Sandpiper and Dunlin. Sometimes also Temminck's Stint, Little Stint and Sanderling.
