Former polder that is now permanently flooded and acts like a magnet for birds.
As part of the large-scale nature conservation project "Peenetal / Peene-Haff-Moor", the former polder in the Große Rosin was abandoned and the area was permanently flooded. From the observation tower near restaurant Aalbude and the two observation platforms, which are located at the dam to the Aalbude, you have a wide view over this extensive water landscape. Birds can be observed at any time of the year, but the biggest peak of birds is during autumn migration when thousands of geese and other migratory birds stop here to rest. Great Egret, Northern Shoveler, Common Tern, Red-necked Grebe, Black-necked Grebe, Common Redshank, Ruff, Savi's Warbler and Bearded Tit can be spotted in the shallow water and reed beds. Common Kingfisher whizzes around. Above all this Osprey and White-tailed Eagle circle to look for prey.
From the village of Kützerhof drive in the direction of restaurant Aalbude. The parking lot there is a good starting point for a hike into the area and close to the bird tower. Click on the P in the map to get directions to the parking.
