Description

The renaturized area of Himmelmoor (peat extraction was stopped in 2018, but renaturation has started earlier) is a very nice showcase of a large moor in northern Germany. It is both a breeding place for different bird species, as well as a resting place for migrating birds. Especially in the more lake-like areas a lot of waterfowl and swallows can be observed. In the (publicly inaccessible) areas further into the moor Common Crane and occassionally a White-tailed Eagle can be observed from a distance.
