Description

Ismaninger Speichersee is a large water reservoir in Bavaria. The reservoir is a 7 km long and a maximum of 1 km wide reservoir on the southern edge of the Erdinger Moos. The former fen area has now been converted into meadows and fields. The water reservoir is fenced in in places. This gives the animals their peace and quiet and a wide variety of species can be observed. Among the birds you can see here are Bluethroat, Common Kingfisher, Black-necked Grebe, Common Goldeneye, Red-crested Pochard, Common Teal, Black-crowned Night Heron and Red-throated Diver.

Access

To reach the west side of the reservoir: From the Aschheim / Ismaning motorway exit, drive a good 2 km in the direction of Ismaning until you cross the Isar canal. About 500 m after you have crossed the canal, there is an entrance on the right-hand side (sign with red letters: "E-ON Elektrizitätswerk"). You should turn into this and immediately turn right again. You are now on the access road to the Ismaninger reservoir. You can also get there by bike and then walk around. To reach the east side of the reservoir click on the P in the map to get directions.

Most parts of the reservoir are not accessible. But around the eastern basin (Ostbecken) you can make a circular walk of 7.5 km. This walk is indicated on the map below. Because the reservoir is so large, it is also a good idea to explore the area by bicycle.
