Description

The developement of Rickelsbüller Koog Nature Reserve started in 1981 when the former salt marshes were artificially disconnected from the North Sea. The current wetland meadows with low vegetation are breeding sites for Common Redshank , Black-tailed Godwit , Ruff , Herring Gull , Barnacle Goose and Avocet.

From autumn to early spring, the dyked area and the adjacent salt marshes on the dyke's sea-ward side are resting sites of Barnacle Goose , Brent Goose , Red Knot , Dunlin Eurasian Curlew and Eurasian Wigeon . Observation possibilities depend on the tides of the North Sea.
