Description

The heathland of the Wahner Heide is one of the largest nature reserves in North Rhine-Westphalia and has a great biodiversity. The area has marshes, ponds and dunes, wet and dry meadows, streams and riparian forests. You can find many different bird species and make beautiful walks. Among the birds you can see are Hawfinch, Eurasian Bullfinch, Red-backed Shrike, Yellowhammer, Black Woodpecker, Middle Spotted Woodpecker, European Honey-buzzard, Red Kite, Wood Lark, Tree Pipit and European Stonechat. It is a big area and there are many places where you can start a walk and many trails you can choose from. With the links below you can download different walking trails. You could also first visit the visitor center on the Flughafenstr. 16 in Troisdorf. Or make the circular walk of 6 km indicated on the map below, that starts at the visitor center. Click on the P in the map to get directions to the nearest parking place.
