This nature and landscape conservation area with meadows, orchards, forest and wetlands is a breeding, feeding and resting biotope for many birds.
Waldhägenich is a 547 hectare natural landscape between the A5 motorway in the west and the town of Bühl and Ottersweier in the east. An area of scattered meadows, reed beds, alluvial forests, streams and orchards in the Rhine plain. A shallow wetland with a wooded area is created at the lake. The wooded strip on the lake has developed into a biotope for songbirds such as Common Nightingale and Red-backed Shrike. Among the other birds you can see in the area are Little Owl, Northern Lapwing, Yellowhammer, Common Kingfisher, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Reed Warbler and Golden Oriole.
