Description

The small town of Wassersuppe lies on the banks of the extensive Hohennauener See, on the edge of the Westhavelland nature park. Close to the village a narrow channel (Große Havelländische Hauptkanal) of 3 km is connecting two lakes. From the bridge you have a good view over the reed area, the river and the lake. In the morning you can see a variety of birds: Common Cuckoo sit in the trees near the bridge. Western Marsh Harrier, Osprey, Red Kite frequent the reeds, sometimes a White-tailed Eagle comes hunting in the lake. Common Crane, White Stork, Mute Swan, Grey Heron are frequently seen in the wet areas around the river. Great Reed Warbler and other warblers can be heard and seen in the river area.

Best thing to do is bring a canoe or rent one in the nearby village (next to the church is a boat rental) and paddle along the channel. The birds are used to canoes and small boats. You can see the birds from really close (< 50 meters) hunting on fish in the river.
