UNESCO World Heritage Site. World famous ancient ruins are themselves a delight to visit. Eastern Meditereanean hillside birding with reasonably easy access.
In winter when least crowded by tourists Rock Partridge can be found above the ruins on the hillsides, but you have to go up there to see them. With luck on the rock faces on the eastern side of the ancient ruins very easy Wallcreeper can be found. (But note the comment below, made in January 2024: 'The access to the Wallcreeper site is now inaccessible from castalia spring and is clearly out of bounds, with a sign beyond the boundary rope stating that access to the gorge is prohibited due to falling rocks.')
Western Rock Nuthatch are very common and breed in the ruins. Culturally a fantastic place to visit. You can do a day trip on an excusrion from Athens but that will unlikely yield the Rock Partridge as first light above the ruins when they are calling is the best way to find them. So a hirecar and staying locally for a few days is recommended.
Walking once parked. Some short but steep hike for the Rock Partridge
I stated strenuous walk however within the ruins themselves the walking can be very easy. The least effort I have ever put in for a Wallcreeper near the Castalia Spring.
