Description

Lake Almyros is one of the most important wetlands of western Crete. In the lake you can find many aquatic birds. The lake is not only worth a visit for waterfowl. In Georgioupoulis I found the largest Barn Swallow roost I have seen so far! Among the other birds you can encounter are Common Greenshank, Wood Sandpiper, Common Snipe, Common Sandpiper, Green Sandpiper, Common Kingfisher, Alpine Swift, Little Egret, Yellow-legged Gull, European Goldfinch, Italian Sparrow and Cetti's Warbler.
