Spata Fields

Attica  >  Greece

Agricultural fields, basically grapes, olives and figs. Excellent migration area, easily accessed. Even more productive when flooded in spring!

Description

Next to Athens International Airport, the area has building restriction, low scale agriculture is only present. This is the first flat area that migratory birds may find on their way up to northern Greece, so both in spring and autumn the area gets full of birds, mostly passerines and raptors. It can be extremely interesting if it gets flooded in spring, when terns, waders, herons arrive every day.
