The Lake Baláta Nature Reserve and Forest Reserve covers an area of 342 hectares. The vegetation-covered lake and the surrounding forest attract many birds.

Description

Lake Baláta (Baláta-tó) and the surrounding Baláta Lake Nature Reserve is a great place for birding in Somogy County. In order to preserve its wildlife, the lake was declared protected in 1942. Many herons, ducks, grebes and other waterbirds can be spotted in the area. There are 7 pairs of nesting White-tailed Eagle in the forests of the area. Other birds you can encounter are Ferruginous Duck, Purple Heron, Spotted Crake, Black Stork, Reed Warbler, Little Grebe and Black Woodpecker.

Access

The lake is located in the western part of Somogy County, between Kaszó, Somogycsicsó and Szenta. One of the stops of the light rail between Kaszó and Szenta is located near the lake, from here you can reach the bird-watching tower built near the lake on foot on the forest path of about 400 meters. The highly protected lake can only be visited officially by professional guidance.
