Description

Borgarfjordur Eystri is without a doubt the best, easiest and safest place in Iceland to see Atlantic Puffin up close. At the nearby harbor you will find a birdrock. You can walk up the rock via a staircase and soon you're face to face with hundreds of puffins. There are a shelter and wooden platforms where you can get really close to the puffins without the risk of falling into a burrow or down a cliff. You can see them up closely when they make their nest or feed their young with freshly caught fish. There are about 10.000 pairs of puffins nestling here from mid-April to mid-August. You also get excellent views of species such as Northern Fulmar, Kittiwake and Common Eider.
