The regi lagni are artificial canals built in the 1800s, they were used to irrigate the cultivated fields of the area and are frequented by many bird species.

Description

Foce dei Regi Lagni is an area where the artificial channel reaches the Tyrrhenian Sea. The mouth of the regi lagni is a mix of different habitats with bushy fields, dunes, reed beds, beach and sea. This variety attracts many birds. Among the birds you can see are Black-necked Grebe, Slender-billed Gull, Black Tern, Glossy Ibis, Grey Heron, Black-crowned Night Heron, Black-winged Stilt, Osprey, Western Marsh Harrier, Little Ringed Plover, Common Ringed Plover, Eurasian Oystercatcher, Dunlin, European Bee-eater, Caspian Tern and Red-backed Shrike.
