Description

Palude costiera di Margi Spanó is a coastal marsh separated from the sea by a narrow and low dune cord. Characterized by a waterproof substrate, given the high concentration of silt and clays. In the winter period the depressions are flooded by marine waters, to which are added fresh water coming from the interior. In the summer period the same depressions tend to partially dry up, thus generating rather peculiar and expressive habitats, of particular naturalistic-environmental importance; they host interesting floristic aspects, as well as representing important oases for resident and migratory birds. Among the birds you can see here are Greater Flamingo, Western Marsh Harrier, Common Snipe, Common Shelduck, Common Redshank, Common Kingfisher, Purple Heron, Squacco Heron, Ferruginous Duck and Stone-curlew.

In periodo dall’avifauna svernante.
