Description

Inserted in a wooded/urbanised/seminative dominant land, the fence-protected four pools offer an interesting stop-over site for wetland birds passing by. Much of its potential is easily reconduced to the almost complete absence of similar habitats in a medium range of distance, before reaching the several lakes and wetlands northwards (most times richer in quantity and diversity of birds). The scenery consists in a 3 hectars depression (hosting free water, muddy banks periodically submerged, reeds and shrubs) surrounded by a circular walk, thus resulting higher in elevation. Hence, you are advised to bring with you a spotting scope, even if it's not necessary to appreciate bigger birds such as ducks.

Access

After leaving behind the paved route (Via Cornaggia), a 400 meters path brings you to the circular route surrounding the pools. The best way to visit is walking along the 1 km circular route (both clockwise and counterclockwise are fine, depending on the sun position) resting periodically in order to check every corner of the wetland. The effort to reach the top of the three hillocks present is worth it: the longer distance is overcompensated by the advantage of spotting hidden and wider areas. As a consequence, it's advisable to leave your bike before undertaking the circular route (tie it up at the green fence). Arriving by car doesn't allow you to skip the 400 meters route, but, for your luck, you can park in the neighborhood (see the paved areas parallel to Via Cornaggia). The nearest railway station (Mozzate) is 1,5 km away.
