The small lake Sidi Boughaba is located southwest of Kenitra. It is also a local recreation area and therefore has a lot of visitors, especially on weekends.
You can find some great species at the Sidi Boughaba lake like the Red-knobbed Coot, Purple Swamphen, White-headed Duck, Ferruginous Duck and rarely the Marsh Owl. In winter there can be well over 100 White-headed Duck on the lake.
From Kenitra you drive on the P4266 southwest out of the city. As soon as the road comes to the lake you can turn sharply left to the lake. You can park either at the northwest end or on the eastern side of the lake.
The Marsh Owl can rarely be seen late at night at the northern end of the lake. The Marsh Owl probably does not breed in this area. It is assumed that these are induviduals who can no longer find any territory in Merja Zerga, located in the north.
