Description

The Aalkeetbuitenpolder is managed specially for meadow birds. The polder has a raised water level, so that the bottom remains soft enough for Black-tailed Godwit and Common Redshank. These grasslands in Midden-Delfland attract many meadow birds in spring and summer. And many geese and ducks on the lake Rijsplas in winter. This lake is full of geese from November to April, with big groups of Eurasian Wigeon and Common Teal. These hibernators eat on the grasslands and sleep on the lake. They live in groups of hundreds of birds, impressive to see. Besides the already mentioned birds, you can also find Northern Shoveler, Northern Lapwing, Eurasian Curlew, Eurasian Oystercatcher, Common Snipe, Water Rail, White Stork, Eurasian Spoonbill, Western Marsh Harrier, Cetti's Warbler, Reed Bunting, Sedge Warbler and Common Cuckoo.
