Description

The Afferdense and Deestse Waarden are a new nature reserve along the southern bank of the river Waal west of the city of Nijmegen. A co-flowing side channel of 4.5 kilometers has been constructed and parts of the site have been lowered. Here the river is allowed to take its own course and bring changes to the landscape due to high and low water. The river nature is already abundant and countless birds can be seen, such as Avocet, Little Ringed Plover, Common Shelduck, Osprey, Northern Shoveler, Great Egret, Peregrine Falcon, Common Kingfisher, Bluethroat, Ring Ouzel, Goosander.
