Description

The Schammer is a nature reserve located between the Barneveldse Beek and the Valleikanaal. The area was redesigned in the winter of 2010-2011. It consists of wet barren grasslands and reed marsh. In addition to a nature reserve, it was also given a recreational function and could be used as a storage facility for large amounts of rainwater.

It is a very wide and open area. There are a number of ponds and ditches, you will also find a lot of reed and swamp forests. There are many bird species such as: Bluethroat, Mallard, Gadwall, Garganey,Common Kingfisher, Northern Lapwing, Great Egret en Common Pheasant.

Access

You can park at hockey club MHC Leusden. The area is easy to explore on foot and by bicycle. Also wheelchair accessible. De circular route you see on the map is about 2,5 km.
