Description
The Geleenbeekdal is a beautiful area south-east of the city of Geleen. Typical South Limburg landscape with steep edges, fields, sloping forests, grasslands, orchards and pools that lie along the stream Geleenbeek. Different habitats and therefore a considerable diversity of birds. This is also the natural habitat of the European hamster. The route runs partly through the beautiful beech forest of the Stammenderbos. Birds that you may encounter during the walk are Common Kingfisher, Grey Wagtail, Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Eurasian Nuthatch, Marsh Tit and Hawfinch.

Nederlands: Het Geleenbeekdal ligt ten zuidoosten van Geleen. Typisch Zuid-Limburgs landschap met steilranden, akkers, hellingbossen, graslanden, boomgaarden en poelen die langs de Geleenbeek liggen. Verschillende leefgebieden en dus ook een behoorlijke diversiteit aan vogels. Dit is ook het natuurlijke leefgebied van de korenwolf oftewel de wilde hamster, al krijg je die moeilijk te zien. De route loopt deels door het mooie beukenwoud van het Stammenderbos, behalve leefgebied van veel vogels ook leefgebied voor de grootste keversoort van Nederland: het vliegend hert. Vogels die je tijdens de wandeling kunt tegenkomen zijn Common Kingfisher, Grey Wagtail, Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Eurasian Nuthatch, Marsh Tit en Hawfinch.

You can park at the parking lot Biesenweg 1, Geleen, at the Biesenhof. This circular walk is about 6 km and marked in the terrain with blue route arrows. The southern part of the walk (on the map the part of the route between the two stars) is the most interesting part in terms of bird watching.

Nederlands: Parkeren kan bij de parkeerplaats Biesenweg 1, Geleen, bij de Biesenhof. Deze rondwandeling van Natuurmonumenten is ongeveer 6 km en in het terrein gemarkeerd met blauwe routepijltjes. Het zuidelijke gedeelte van de wandeling (op de kaart het gedeelte van de route tussen de twee sterren) is wat betreft vogels kijken het meest interessante stuk. Check ook altijd even het kleine met riet omzoomde meer (waar op de kaart het vogelsymbool met de kleine karekiet staat), want daar heb je ook kans leuke vogels aan te treffen.
