Description

The Groesplaat is a channel of 1500 meters long and 30 to 40 meters wide. This channel now forms the heart of the Groesplaat nature reserve. It is a so-called "co-flowing secondary channel": at high tide, the Merwede river can dispose of its excess water and flows with it. From birdwatching hide "t Vinkennestje" you can observe Black-tailed Godwit, Common Redshank, Northern Lapwing, Eurasian Curlew, Great Cormorant and many more birds. Large numbers of waders and geese during migration.
