Description

A river overflow area has been constructed between Heerde and Wapenveld. This overflow area gives the river IJssel more space. With high water, the inlet opens and the water flows in. The overflow area hetween Wapenveld and Heerde is nice for birding. It's an open meadow area with dikes and ditches. Among the birds you can see here are European Stonechat, Eurasian Curlew, Northern Shoveler, Garganey, Common Snipe, Western Yellow Wagtail, Hen Harrier (winter) and Short-eared Owl (spring).
