Description

De Katerstede (an area of 32 hectare and 1.7 km long) is located in the floodplains of the river IJssel near the village of Welsum. Open water with dense vegetation. It is a typical riverlandscape on the west side of the river IJssel, one of the most beautiful rivers in the Netherlands. In times of high waterlevel it can be very wet. The area is home to typical songbirds and forest birds. Including Eurasian Goshawk, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Golden Oriole, Hawfinch, Common Cuckoo, Grasshopper Warbler, Spotted Flycatcher, Willow Tit, Greater Whitethroat and Garden Warbler. And many water birds in winter.

Nederlands: De Katerstede ligt in de uiterwaarden van de IJssel bij het dorp Welsum. Het is een waterplas omringd door zachthoutooibos en ruigten. Het gebied herbergt typische zang- en bosvogels én in de winter veel watervogels. Tijdens hoogwater kan het gebied erg nat zijn.

There is smal area to park along the road IJsseldijk. The area itself is only accessible on foot. There is a bird hide in the area.
