Description

From the bird hide the Ral you have a wide view over the shallow water. Many types of birds can be seen, often in (large) groups. Eurasian Spoonbill and Great Egret stand out among the waders. Sometimes Greater Flamingo can be seen. Common Greenshank, Common Sandpiper and Spotted Redshank will also be there. In the reed beds, species such as Great Bittern, Bearded Tit, Savi's Warbler, Sedge Warbler, Reed Warbler and Bluethroat breed. Birds of prey also pass by, including Osprey, Sparrowhawk and Western Marsh Harrier. Large groups of ducks and geese reside in the winter.

Nederlands: Ondiep open water, slikranden en rietmoeras met bosopslag. Vanuit de vogelkijkhut de Ral heeft men een ruim zicht over het ondiepe water. Er zijn veel soorten vogels te zien, vaak in (grote) groepen. Van de steltlopers vallen lepelaar en grote zilverreiger op. Soms is de flamingo te zien. Ook groenpootruiter, oeverloper en zwarte ruiter komen er. In de rietvelden komen soorten als roerdomp, baardmannetje, snor , rietzanger en kleine karekiet en blauwborst tot broeden. Roofvogels komen er ook langs, waaronder visarend, sperwer en bruine kiekendief. In de winter verblijven er grote groepen eenden en ganzen.

Access

The bird hide is located south of Piaam. You get there via the road along the old sea dyke. Parking space available at the Koaireed. A path of 500 meter leads from the dike to the bird hide.

Nederlands: De hut staat ten zuiden van Piaam. U komt er via de weg langs de oude zeedijk. Parkeerplaats aanwezig bij de Koaireed. Vanaf de dijk loopt een paadje naar de hut (500 meter).
