Beautiful and wet nature reserve and great birding area where many birds can be found. As many as 100 bird species breed in the area.
National Park De Groote Peel is an area of 1500 hectares of former peat bog. Now it is a nature reserve renowned for its bird wealth. A fairly open area, which has been excavated in the past (peat). Because it is quite wet it is interesting for birds. The area is surrounded by meadows and therefore meadow birds can also be found. Some of the birds you can see here are Golden Oriole, Northern Lapwing, Eurasian Curlew, Bluethroat, Little Grebe, Black-necked Grebe, Great Bittern, White Stork and in winter Great Grey Shrike. And if you are very lucky Common Crane and Black Stork. It's a great place for birding most of the year, but don't go there in the hottest summer months, because you won't see many birds.
You can park at the visitor center and explore the National Park by foot. There are many trails and hides to explore the area.
