Oudemirdumerklif is a coastal strip of boulder clay with a steep bank of six meters high. Many water birds can be seen in the shallow water.

Description

From the Oudemirdumerklif you have a wide and magnificent view over lake IJsselmeer. In the shallow water many water birds can be seen, including Common Goldeneye, Goosander, Smew and Greater Scaup. Other birds that are spotted here are Eurasian Spoonbill, Greater Flamingo and Great Cormorant. Of the gull species Caspian Tern, Black Tern and Little Tern are worth mentioning. A special phenomenon here is the pushed migration of land birds in September and October. During the migration period, many songbirds can be seen, including many Meadow Pipit, larks, wagtails, Common Starling, Sparrowhawk and Eurasian Hobby.

Nederlands: Oudemirdumerklif is een kuststrook van keileem (klif) met een steile oever van zes meter hoog. Vanaf de Oudemirdumerklif heeft men een weids en schitterend uitzicht over het IJsselmeer. In het ondiepe water zijn veel watervogels te zien, waaronder brilduiker, grote zaagbek, nonnetje en toppereend. Ook lepelaar, flamingo en aalscholver zijn er gesignaleerd. Van de meeuwensoorten zijn reuzenstern, zwarte stern en dwergmeeuw het vermelden waard. Een bijzonder verschijnsel hier is de gestuwde trek van landvogels in september en oktober. Tijdens de trektijd zijn vooral veel zangvogels te zien, waaronder veel graspiepers, leeuwerikken, kwikstaarten, spreeuwen, sperwers en boomvalk.

Access

This viewpoint is located south of Oudemirdum and is on the De Dollen road. A short walk (300 meter) from the parking lot via a footpath along the new garden wall. Click on the P in the map for directions.
