Description

De Dijken is a new (2021) nature and water storage area. The area has next to hay meadows, also wet meadows with high water levels and some pools. There are also some bushes in the area. The higher situated Dijkweg runs through the middle of the polder, from which there is a good view of a large part of the polder. Species diversity is expected to increase rapidly. Birds that you can find there are Greylag Goose, Greater White-fronted Goose, Egyptian Goose, Common Cuckoo, Eurasian Oystercatcher, Eurasian Curlew, Common Snipe, White Stork, Great Cormorant, Grey Heron, Great Egret, Eurasian Goshawk, Common Buzzard, Barn Owl, Long-eared Owl, Common Kingfisher, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Eurasian Kestrel, Marsh Tit, Willow Tit, Blackcap, Lesser Whitethroat, Greater Whitethroat, Whinchat, European Stonechat, Northern Wheatear, Eurasian Tree Sparrow, White Wagtail, Brambling, Eurasian Bullfinch, Greenfinch, Linnet, European Goldfinch and Eurasian Siskin.

Nederlands: De Dijken is een nieuw (2021) natuur- en waterbergingsgebied in Groningen. Het gebied van 200 hectare heeft hooilanden en natte weiden met hoge waterstand en poelen. Er zijn ook enkele bosjes. Midden door de polder loopt de hoger gelegen Dijkweg, waar vanaf er een goed uitzicht is op een groot deel van de polder. Verwacht wordt dat de soortenrijkdom er snel zal toenemen.

Recently (2020) landscaped nature reserve, will develop further. Bird richness is expected to increase sharply. Beavers and otters are also expected.

Nederlands: Recent (2020) ingericht natuurgebied, gaat zich verder ontwikkelen. Voor het overgrote deel in beheer bij Staatsbosbeheer. Ook particulier natuurbeheer. Verwacht wordt dat de vogelrijkdom sterk zal toenemen. Ook worden er bevers en otters verwacht.
