Hellesjøvann is a small, shallow lake which attracts a lot of migrating birds, as well as interesting local breeders. Around 200 species hav been reported here.
The lake is located in a large agricultural area with some woods mixed in. There is a birding tower in the woods to the southwest which overlooks the lake. It's also possible to get good views along the road to the south and east, but be aware that this road is used by local farmers, so don't block it.
During spring and autumn migration, the lake usually holds good amounts of Common Pochard. Keep a lookout for migrating predators as well, such as Eurasian Hobby, Hen Harrier and European Honey-buzzard. The reedbeds are a good spot for a variety of species. You will usually find Reed Bunting, Reed Warbler, Western Marsh Harrier and Water Rail here during summer, as well as good numbers of Great Crested Grebe. Osprey frequently visit, and there are still Northern Lapwing breeding in the surrounding fields.
Rarer finds include Bearded Tit, Smew and Great Bittern.
Car is by far the simplest way of getting to the lake. Buses are not frequent in this area, and you'll have to walk a bit. Biking is of course possible, depending on where you are located.
The birding tower is not accessible for wheelchair users.
