Description

Lake Powidzkie (Jezioro Powidzkie) is a wide, open lake with exceptionally clear water, surrounded by quiet forests, meadows, and small sandy shores. The mix of reedbeds, shallow bays, and large stretches of open water creates varied habitats that attract birds all year round. It’s an excellent place for watching grebes, ducks, swans, terns, and gulls, especially during migration. Regular species include Toppgoði, Sefgoði, Hvinönd, Gulönd, Sílaþerna, Gráhegri and Haförn with chances for rarities such as divers, Hvítönd or migrating waders in spring and autumn.

Other birds that can be observed include Glitbrúsi, Dverggoði, Himbrimi, Gáshaukur, Turnfálki, Dílaskarfur, Sefþvari, Mjallhegri, Skutulönd, Bláþyrill, Grágæs, Dvergsvanur, Rauðhöfðaönd, Skeiðönd, Grafönd, Fjöruspói, Lappajaðrakan, Tildra and Rauðbrystingur.

Access

Lake Powidzkie lies about 70 km east of Poznań and is easily reached by car. Local roads lead directly to several access points along the shore. There are convenient parking spots in Powidz, Przybrodzin, and at the small bays on the southern and eastern shores. In most places you can park close to the water and start birding right away. Press a P on the map for directions.

The lake is best explored on foot or by bicycle. Walking paths and quiet local roads run along large sections of the shoreline, giving access to reedbeds, viewpoints, and small beaches. A car is useful for moving between the northern and southern parts, but the most productive birding is usually done on foot around the bays and reedbeds.
