Although this is an irrigated area, the reservoir and wetlands are very interesting for birding. The steppe and dry land areas around it are also very rich.

Description

The Pas reservoir, along with the Santa Rita reservoir, are two irrigation reservoirs located in the south-eastern area of the province of Huesca. Both are part of the Special Protection Area for Birds of 185 ha. The area is of great interest for waterfowl, especially for wintering birds with concentrations of several thousand birds. Also for migratory waders. But Embalse de El Pas is also important for breeding birds. In 2018 54 bird species have been observed breeding. Some of the nice birds you can see are Common Shelduck, Pin-tailed Sandgrouse, European Roller, Long-eared Owl and Golden Eagle. But many more, see the list below.

Access

Leaving the Huesca motorway towards Zaidin, you have to enter a path to the right, at the height of Finca San Miguel, and drive straight for about 2 km. The turn off is marked on the map with the star symbol.
