Description

Estany d’Ivars i Vila-sana is the largest lake in the Catalan inland. In 2005, the lake was restored to its former glory, after it had previously fallen victim to extreme drought. The lake has now grown into one of the most important nature reserves for (migratory) birds. An oasis of peace in the middle of the vast plain full of fruit trees. More than 220 different bird species have been spotted in the area. The lake has a circular path of 6 km. There are two parking areas and several bird hides open to the public. Among the birds you can see are Dunlin, Common Snipe, Common Redshank, White Stork, Purple Heron, Little Egret, Cattle Egret, Black-crowned Night Heron, Booted Eagle, Western Marsh Harrier, Red Kite, Black Kite, Common Kingfisher, European Bee-eater, Cetti's Warbler, Bluethroat, Common Nightingale, Pied Flycatcher, Black Redstart and European Stonechat.
