Open steppe landscape with traditional agriculture and a great many of special birds you can see here.
The steppe plains Estepas de Yecla are great for birdwatching. Plain or sparsely undulating surfaces make up most of the space. The area is dedicated to the extensive cultivation of cereal, there are many plots where, due to its low yield, they are abandoned and occupied by wasteland. Vineyards, almond and olive trees and pine or holm oak groves that surround the steppe are a refuge for different species of birds. The Estepas de Yecla of the Murcia region of the Altiplano, at the foot of the town of Yecla, offer the possibility of easily encountering some unique birds. Among them, the Great Bustard, which visits these lands in winter. But also Little Bustard, Pin-tailed Sandgrouse, Black-bellied Sandgrouse and Great Spotted Cuckoo can be seen here.
Car paths cross the area and allow you to visit it completely. Please be aware of private property! See the map for the best birding roads.
