One of the most important wetlands in Spain. Excellent wintering area for waterfowl. More than 250 species of birds have been seen here.
La Laguna de la Nava is a great wetland for birding and a very important area for birds. It holds large flocks of Greylag Goose, wintering waterfowl, steppe birds like Great Bustard, waders and ducks. Spring is the time of passage of migratory birds, such as Eurasian Spoonbill, Common Redshank and other waders and plovers. The breeding season has species such as Purple Heron, Western Marsh Harrier and Black-winged Stilt among others. In summer despite of its water scarcity, the lagoon shelters several thousand Mallard or hundreds of White Stork. In the autumn Common Crane and a wide variety of waders and other passage migrants can be seen.
