Description

Knösen is a peninsula that majorly is a wide open area, pastures surrounded by moist meadows and the sea.

At the parking are the remains of an old fortress, standing at the top gives a good view of Bakdjupet. Following the track on the W side are some smaller grooves worth giving an extra look in spring and autumn. At the northern edge there is a small copse and also a good view over the sea and, though a bit far, Skanörs revel (bank). Further east and in the middle of the peninsula is a smaller forest. At the south part of the track lays Skanörs cemetery which is a good spot for Ring Ouzel in spring.

Birding at Knösen is very dependent on the weather and winds. Generally eastern wind is good otherwise the migrating birds tend to go further south on the Falsterbo peninsula. Notable is that during autumn migration the best time to visit is when the migrating birds are forced to return due to bad weather over the Öresunds strait. Then the birds tend to end up att Knösen in big ammounts. Also worth knowing is that with SE wind during the migration of raptors in the autumn quite some numbers pass over Knösen (see link below)

Spring; In late April to early May Knösen is a reliable spot for Ring Ouzel and other thrushes. In early April the display and song of hundreds of Northern Pintail can be experienced.

Autumn and winter; great amounts of geese and swans gather at the pastures and in the waters, sometimes rarieties such as Red-breasted Goose. At the tip in winter Whooper Swan and Bewick's Swan.
