Description

The Loftaån river empties into Vinö glo, which is a shallow bay in the sea bay Gudingen. Today, the Uknö area is a well-known bird sanctuary with visitors from all over Sweden. Best birding is during spring and autumn with many migrating and resting birds in large numbers. During the summer there are many interesting nesting birds in the area. Even in winter, the area can be good for bird watchers, as especially large flocks of ducks are often found at Vinö glo, Gudingebaden and Bjursund. Among the interesting birds you can see here in Uknö are Garganey, Common Goldeneye Smew, Goosander, Red-breasted Merganser, Common Quail, Slavonian Grebe, Eurasian Nightjar, Water Rail, Spotted Crake, Common Crane, Jack Snipe, Eurasian Woodcock, Great Snipe, Common Snipe, Red-necked Phalarope, Spotted Redshank, Caspian Tern, Osprey, European Honey-buzzard, Golden Eagle, Western Marsh Harrier, Eurasian Wryneck, Red-backed Shrike, Great Grey Shrike, Lapland Bunting, Snow Bunting, Yellowhammer and Reed Bunting. And many more, see the extended list below.
