Description
The Ostergauer Weiher is an area of ponds rich in fish surrounded bij reed beds and dry and wet meadows. More than 170 different bird species have been observed in the Ostergau since 1970 and about 40 bird species breed in the area. Dværghejre and Rørspurv breed regularly, Drosselrørsanger, Savisanger and Græshoppesanger from time to time. The Ostergau is also used as a resting place by migrants. Sometimes rarities such as Blåhals, Fiskeørn, Gærdesanger, Vendehals and Hærfugl show up. More regular birds of the area include Vibe, Lille Lappedykker and Hvid Stork.

Access
A small network of paths leads past the ponds. You can park on the small parking along the Rötelbergstrasse. Click on the P in the map for directions. From the parking you can explore the area on foot. Traveling by public transport you can take the train to Willisau. From the train station in Willisau it is about a 2 km walk to reach the Ostergauer Weiher.
