With a summit at 1558m asl, the Suchet is one of the few mountains top of the Jura Chain that has a alpine landscape with meadows above the tree limit.
The summit of the Suchet offer a magnificient 360° view above the Swiss plateau (with lake Neuchâtel and lake Léman) and french Jura. It is especially worth a visit in late autumn when the lowlands are in fog and where you can expect sunshine and a wonderfull view of the Alps from the Suchet (be carefull it can by busy on such days...).
Birdwise it is especially known to be one of the best spots in Switzerland for the stopover of the Dotterel in late august-begining of september. But the area is also good for less rare migrants and for breeding birds.
Closest train stops are in Baulmes or Sainte-Croix. The easiest way is to go up is by car until almost the summit (See the P on the map). There are many opportunites to reach the summit on foot but it are generally long (but beautiful) walks. The route you see on the map is about 2 km.
Conditions can quickly be harsh even in the summer with strong wind and snow. Having good clothes with you is always a good idea.
