Description
Ekşisu Marshes has vast reed beds in the valley. It is a diverse area in terms of birds. During the breeding season Stârc cenușiu nests on top of the reeds which is not a common breeding place of the species in Turkey. The subspecies of Cocor (Grus grus archibaldi) which can be seen in Turkey and a few neighboring countries breeds in the area. This subspecies is rare and vulnerable. Grus grus archibaldi differs from the nominate subspecies by the nearly completely black head plate (red in Grus g. grus) and the light yellow eyes (red, orange or yellow in Grus g. grus). Also, there are Grey-headed Swamphen, Grelușel de stuf and much more.
