In summer resident birds like the Φιδαετός and Αετογερακίνα are commonly seen. The vibrant plumage of species like the (Ευρωπαϊκή) Χαλκοκουρούνα adds to the visual spectacle. In winter species such as Χιονοτσίχλονο can be observed.

What makes Red Valley special is its combination of natural beauty and historical significance. The valley is dotted with ancient cave churches and dwellings. The serene environment, coupled with the melodic calls of (Κοινό) Αηδόνι and (Κοινή) Σιταρήθρα, creates a peaceful birdwatching experience.

Access

The Red Valley is located in the heart of Cappadocia, just east of the town of Goreme. It lies within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Goreme National Park. By Car: You can drive to Red Valley from Goreme, which is about a 20-30 minute drive. There are parking areas available near the valley, especially at the eastern entrance where you can find some cafes and a small parking lot. Press P on the map for directions.

By Public Transport: You can take a bus from Goreme or Avanos to reach the valley. The bus ride is short and convenient. On Foot: Red Valley is accessible by a 20-30 minute walk from Goreme, making it a good option for those who enjoy hiking.

The best way to explore Red Valley is on foot. There are numerous hiking trails that lead you through the valley's stunning rock formations and ancient cave dwellings. Plan to spend at least 2-3 hours exploring Red Valley. If you want to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of the landscape and enjoy birdwatching, you might want to allocate more time.
